Our expertise in Engineering Support

We trust that the diversity in energy production is the way to a greener future. To produce energy more sustainably, it is important to continue the integration of renewable energy sources. In this way, we support the transition to a net-zero energy grid.

By performing network harmonic analysis, we reduce the time for any system design and operation.

As the number of nonlinear loads represents a growing part of the total loads, we need to examine the impact of harmonics on the power system. Moreover, we need to make sure that the network complies with the standards and national regulations. For example, the IEEE 519 compliance defines the maximum current distortion at the point of common coupling (PCC).

To minimize the probability of an accident while operating any power distribution panel or other electrical equipment, and increase the overall system safety, it is recommended to inform the operating personnel about the risks generated by an arc flash hazard.

We determine the arc flash boundary, arc flash energy levels, or the safe working distance by performing a short circuit analysis, or just by performing the Arc Flash Analysis according to IEEE 1584 standard.

We can also help you generate the arc flash labels as required in the standard NFPA 70E for electrical safety in the workplace.

What we need from you:

If you already have the short circuit analysis for the disputed electrical distribution system, we need the short circuit diagram (single-line diagram) under the worst-case scenario. Based on the provided data, we will generate a report according to the latest IEEE Standard 1584 Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations.

If you choose to do the short circuit analysis with us, we will draw up the report and deliver the labels based on the results of the short circuit analysis.

We conduct protection coordination studies to improve the protection selectivity and sensitivity for power distribution systems according to the local and international standards (IEC 60255, IEEE 242, IEEE 3004, IEEE 399) based on the following protection philosophy:

  1. Protection of the electrical equipment. We minimize the probability of damaging any connected equipment during an electrical fault.
  1. Minimize the fault duration for personnel protection. We minimize the arc flash duration by clearing all electrical faults in the shortest time. This ensures personnel protection and reduces equipment damage. The trip time of the upstream protection must be short enough to ensure that the fault current is below the protecting equipment’s damaging curve (I2t).
  1. Time grading to accomplish precise protection relay coordination. By tripping the correct breaker in the power grid, we facilitate a safety time margin to ensure energy supply continuity.
  1. Current grading to accomplish precise discrimination. We ensure the trip of the breaker isolating the faulty part of the electrical power system network. Adding a grading margin, depending on different factors such as the CT error and relay tolerance, the rest remains untouched.
  1. Harmonize the redundant protection relay. We ensure that the redundant protection relays are harmonized if the power system network has multiple protection relays tripping the same circuit breaker.
  1. False trip prevention or overreach. We consider different work scenarios to prevent the relay protection false trip when the power system is exposed to significant power swings, or for particular power system network configurations.
  1. Ensure the stability of generating units. We ensure the generating units’ stability by removing the faults in time, on the principal distribution level.
  1. Ensure the stability of the technological process. While the current raises rapidly in case of a short circuit, the voltage drops, leading to rotating machines’ decelerations. When the fault is removed, all the rotating machines restart. The current can reach values in the start-up current range which can generate an overcurrent trip. The restart of all the rotating machines in parallel could prolonge the voltage drops which can generate undervoltage trips and other electrical phenomena.
